The Molecular Cartilage Biology research group (Lead: Prof. Dr. Tim Welting) at the Laboratory for Experimental Orthopedics pushes boundaries in disease modeling, biomolecular therapies, and patient-specific diagnostics for osteoarthritis.

 

Osteoarthritis is one of the most prevalent and disabling chronic conditions worldwide. Yet, due to the poor predictive power of traditional animal models, no effective drug treatment currently exists. 
That is why we are proud to be part of the CPBT (Centrum voor Proefdiervrije Biomedische Translatie) – a national initiative funded by the Nationaal Groeifonds (NGF) – focused on replacing animal testing with innovative, human-based lab models.

Within CPBT, our Osteoarthritis/Rheumatoid Arthritis Transition Project, led by Prof. Dr. Tim Welting, brings together top-tier academic institutions (Maastricht University, Utrecht University, UMC Utrecht) and industry partners to revolutionize preclinical research in musculoskeletal disease.

 

Your role
We are looking for a driven and organized Project Manager with a PhD in biomedical or life sciences. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating this ambitious project, helping to shift the paradigm in translational orthopedic research.

 

Key responsibilities

• Support and advise the project lead (Prof. Welting) in managing the project’s strategic goals
• Maintain strong communication and collaboration among academic and industry partners
• Prepare and manage reports, monitor milestones, and track project progress
• Maintain budget oversight and support financial reporting
• Gain sufficient scientific understanding of the project to contribute meaningfully to strategy and reporting
• (Preferred optional) Contribute to focused laboratory-based post-doc level research in molecular cartilage biology

• An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0,8 - 1,0 FTE. Upon a positive evaluation and sufficient financial resources, an extension will follow.

You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. At the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), everything revolves around healthy living. Our research and education are not solely focused on recovery, but place a strong emphasis on prevention, health preservation, and health promotion. De MUMC+ Academie is het opleidingsinstituut van het Maastricht UMC. Het betreft een arbeidsovereenkomst van een jaar voor gemiddeld 24 tot 36uur uur per week conform artikel 2.4.2 Cao umc, zijnde een tijdelijk contract vooruitlopend op een arbeidsovereenkomst voor onbepaalde tijd als bedoeld in lid 3 van artikel 2.3 Cao umc.

Your colleagues

You will join the Sustainability of Chemicals and Materials group at the Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM), located at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen. This group is known for its cutting-edge research in life cycle sustainability assessment of emerging materials and technologies. You will work under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yvonne van der Meer, alongside researchers from diverse backgrounds including environmental science, sustainable chemistry, and materials engineering.

 

You will also collaborate closely with LCA experts from Utrecht University, Wageningen University, and TNO, as well as industrial partners engaged in sustainable materials innovation. It’s a collaborative and impact-driven environment where scientific knowledge meets real-world application.

 

About the project

This postdoctoral position is part of the ULTRA-BIO project, embedded within the Dutch National Growth Fund programme BioBased Circular (BBC). Your mission? To help develop a unified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology for circular biobased products.

 

Your work will focus on:

• Defining consistent methods for assessing environmental impact;
• Addressing key methodological challenges, such as microplastics, end-of-life modelling, and prospective LCA;
• Bridging science and industry to ensure that the tools developed are not only robust, but also practically applicable.

 

The ULTRA-BIO project brings together leading Dutch research institutes—including Maastricht University, Utrecht University, TNO, and Wageningen University & Research—and industry partners. As part of this network, you will contribute to shaping a national standard for LCA of circular biobased value chains.

 

What you will do

As postdoctoral researcher, you will take a central role in the coordination and delivery of the ULTRA-BIO project. Your responsibilities include:

• Coordinating project meetings, tasks, and communication with the supervisory board;
• Developing LCA methodology tailored to circular biobased systems;
• Leading thematic work on issues such as microplastics integration and end-of-life modelling;
• Organising collaborative research efforts across institutional partners;
• Engaging directly with industry stakeholders through interviews and workshops;
• Contributing to academic publications, technical reports, and policy-relevant insights.

What you bring

• A PhD in a relevant field (e.g. environmental sciences, chemical engineering, sustainability science);
• Strong expertise in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), particularly in circular and/or biobased systems;

• A proven publication record in peer-reviewed journals;

Ons doel: Als medewerker Bibliotheekservices vervul je een representatieve rol in een omgeving waarin inhoudelijke dienstverlening, digitale ondersteuning, veiligheid en hospitality centraal staan.
Je maakt je het bibliotheek- en uitleenadministratiesysteem eigen en beheert de bijbehorende administratieve processen.
Je werkt zowel in de publieke ruimte als achter de schermen en neemt vanuit jouw specifieke rol het voortouw bij de organisatie van uiteenlopende activiteiten en events.

 

Jouw collega’s: Je wordt onderdeel van Team Information: een betrokken en behulpzaam team dat zich inzet voor eerstelijns informatievoorziening aan bezoekers. Wat je doet

Tijdens je baliediensten op een van onze twee hoofdlocaties ben jij hét eerste aanspreekpunt voor bezoekers. Je helpt hen op weg, beantwoordt vragen over wetenschappelijke informatie en andere UB-diensten — zowel aan de balie, telefonisch als via e-mail. Daarnaast begeleid en adviseer je bezoekers bij het zelfstandig gebruik van wetenschappelijke informatiebronnen en zoekmachines.

• Tijdens frontoffice-diensten beweeg je je flexibel tussen de publieksruimte en de backoffice. Samen met je collega’s zorg je voor een aantrekkelijke presentatie van collecties en studieplekken, en houd je toezicht op het naleven van de huisregels. Een goed overzicht van onze collectie, diensten en faciliteiten is daarbij essentieel.
• Je draagt actief bij aan de facilitaire en technische ondersteuning binnen onze digitale informatievaardighedenlabs.
• Je bent een zichtbaar en betrokken vertegenwoordiger van onze visie op hospitality en veiligheid binnen de UB. Je denkt mee over hoe we onze dienstverlening — fysiek én online — continu kunnen verbeteren en hoe we de gebruikerservaring kunnen optimaliseren.

 

Specifieke taken
Naast de algemene taken heeft elke collega in ons team één of meerdere specifieke taken waarvoor hij of zij de lead neemt. In deze functie heb jij als specifieke taak de  verantwoordelijkheis voor de coördinatie van uiteenlopende activiteiten en evenementen, zoals themabijeenkomsten rondom onze collectie, open dagen, de INKOM, introducties, rondleidingen en publiekscampagnes. Je werkt hierbij nauw samen met collega’s, maar jij bewaakt het overzicht, stuurt het proces aan en draagt zorg voor een goede planning en uitvoering.

Daarnaast ben je leergierig, proactief en heb je een ondernemende houding. Je levert een actieve bijdrage aan het voortdurend verbeteren van onze dienstverlening, zodat deze blijft aansluiten bij technologische ontwikkelingen en veranderende behoeften van onze gebruikers.

 

Verder breng je mee:

• MBO- of HBO-werk- en denkniveau in een relevant vakgebied, zoals dienstverlening, informatievoorziening of hospitality.
• Een representatieve uitstraling en professionele werkhouding. Ervaring met het organiseren van activiteiten en evenementen is een pré.
• Goede digitale vaardigheden; je werkt vlot met systemen en (online) tools.
• Uitstekende communicatieve vaardigheden, zowel mondeling als schriftelijk – in het Nederlands én Engels (minimaal niveau C1). Heb je dit taalniveau nog niet helemaal? Dan biedt en vergoedt de Universiteit Maastricht een passende training.

 

En verder:

• Ben je flexibel inzetbaar binnen de openingstijden van de UB-locaties – dus ook ’s avonds en in het weekend.
• Heb je een BHV-diploma of ben je bereid om deze te behalen (de opleiding wordt uiteraard verzorgd).

 

Wat biedt de UM?
Als Medewerker bibliotheekservices bij de Universiteits Bibliotheek kom je in dienst bij de meest internationale universiteit van Nederland in het prachtige Maastricht. Verder bieden wij je:

• Goede arbeidsvoorwaarden. De functie is ingeschaald in schaal 6 - 7 conform UFO-profiel Medewerker Bibliotheek Services, functieniveau 1/2 afhankelijk van relevante werkervaring met bijbehorende salarisinschaling op basis van ervaring tussen €3029,00 en €3985,00 bruto per maand (op basis van een fulltime dienstverband van 38 uur per week). In aanvulling op het maandsalaris zijn een 8,0% vakantie-uitkering en een 8,3% eindejaarsuitkering van toepassing.
• Een arbeidsovereenkomst voor een periode van 12 maanden met een omvang van 0,8 FTE. Bij gebleken geschiktheid zal de arbeidsovereenkomst omgezet worden in een dienstverband voor onbepaalde tijd.
• Bij de Universiteit Maastricht staat het welzijn van onze medewerkers hoog in het vaandel, zo hanteren we flexibele werktijden en de mogelijkheid om deels vanuit huis te werken indien de aard van je functie dit toelaat. Hiervoor ontvang je maandelijks een thuiswerk- en internetvergoeding. Kom je fulltime bij ons werken, dan heb je jaarlijks recht op 29 vakantiedagen en 4 extra feestdagen, te weten carnavals maandag, -dinsdag, Goede Vrijdag en Bevrijdingsdag. Maak je gebruik van de mogelijkheid om compensatie-uren op te bouwen, dan komen hier nog eens 12 dagen bij. Daarnaast kun jij jouw arbeidsvoorwaarden personaliseren aan de hand van een cao-keuzemodel.  
• Als Universiteit Maastricht hebben we diverse andere mooie secundaire arbeidsvoorwaarden, hierbij kun je denken aan een goede pensioenregeling bij het ABP en kun je als UM-medewerker meedoen aan bedrijfsfitness en gebruik maken van het zeer uitgebreide sportaanbod dat wij ook aan onze studenten aanbieden.  
• Tot slot maar zeker niet onbelangrijk de ruimte en faciliteiten om jezelf te ontwikkelen: persoonlijk en in jouw vakgebied. Dit faciliteren we door het bieden van een ruim opleidingsaanbod en ondersteunen we door diverse breed gedragen initiatieven zoals ‘erkennen en waarderen’.

Universiteitsbibliotheek 

De Universiteitsbibliotheek biedt studenten, docenten en onderzoekers toegang tot een breed scala aan wetenschappelijke informatie voor onderwijs en onderzoek. Daarmee ondersteunen we hen in het bereiken van hun academische doelen en spelen we actief in op digitale transities. Zo blijven we ons ontwikkelen tot de ‘academische bibliotheek van de toekomst’. Als drijvende kracht achter Open Science dragen we actief bij aan het openstellen en transparant maken van wetenschappelijke informatie. Wat ga je doen?

Als LOB-deskundige binnen het cluster “Beleving, Vitaliteit en Creativiteit” of “Technologie” van VISTA college ontwikkel je een samenhangend, clusterbreed LOB-programma. Je werkt nauw samen met de LOB-ambassadeur van het desbetreffende cluster en de LOB-contactpersonen van de opleidingen. Jouw focus ligt op het:

• Ontwikkelen van een LOB-programma voor de opleidingen binnen het cluster;
• Opstellen van een professionaliseringsplan voor LOB, uitgewerkt per leerjaar en niveau;
• Versterken van de samenwerking en kennisdeling tussen de opleidingen op het gebied van LOB;
• Adviseren en ondersteunen van docenten en teams bij de implementatie van het programma;
• Ontwikkelen van een LOB-programma voor de opleidingen binnen het cluster:
